Jennifer Oversmith  "Ms. Jen"

Lead teacher, Director

Jennifer earned a BA in French and began working with children shortly after.  She spent five years as lead teacher in a cooperative preschool and has also worked in a Montessori setting.  She founded The Magic Attic in 2011.  Her favorite part of teaching is watching the wonder and creativity of preschoolers.  She has been known to get excited about rainbows, mushrooms, and making goop. Jennifer's husband, Richard, is a plein-air artist and they have two daughters who are entering middle and high school this year.

Kari Richmond

Music Together teacher

​​Kari Richmond is the founder, director, and lead teacher of Asheville Area Music Together. She has been playing music of all kinds ever since her cardboard box drumset days, and she's taught groups and individuals since her graduation from East Tennessee State University in 1997.  In May 2006, Kari successfully completed the Music Together Teaching Workshop, and she opened Asheville Area Music Together later that year. In May 2009, Kari was awarded Music Together Certification Level I by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ. Kari is a dynamic and engaging teacher who creates a warm, fun classroom environment. In addition to her Music Together classes, she teaches private piano and percussion lessons to students of all ages. Kari enjoys performing with various regional orchestras and a wide variety of other ensembles, as mommy-hood allows. Married for 17 years to percussionist Matthew Richmond, she is mom to 9-year-old Isaac and 5-year-old Cora.

All Magic Attic teachers submit to a full background check and are Child First Aid/CPR certified.

Kyrie Schmit

Assistant teacher

Kyrie is originally from California, and is currently earning her Masters in Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lenoir-Rhyne University.  She has worked as an Applied Behavioral Analyst tutor and has many years experience finger painting, bubble blowing, and song singing.  She is also famous as The Magic Attic's in-house Irish step dancer.

Lango Spanish teacher

About the Lango program:

 Lango offers immersion-based French, Chinese and Spanish classes to children ages 18 months to 12 years. 

 Our dynamic teachers employ our proprietary curriculum, which combines storytelling, music, movement, art and dramatic play, to teach kids to understand – and ultimately speak – new languages. Our native- speaking and bilingual teachers lead kids through adventure-filled lessons, backed by materials
